Climbing The Ecuador Volcanoes

Over the past few years, I have written six articles for Gripped Magazine. The most recent piece came out a few months ago and focused on a trip I led to the Ecuador Volcanoes. This trip took place in November 2011,  right before I travelled to Colombia to learn paragliding in Bucaramanga. Coincidentally, I wrote this article a year later while on a month-long flying trip to Olu Deniz, Turkey. Oh man, how great would it be to fly off the Ecuador Volcanoes!

My first trip to Ecuador was in 1999 and since then I have led about 15 expeditions to the country. In that time, I have logged numerous ascents of: Cayambe, Cotopaxi, Chimborazo, Antisana, the Illinizas, and the Pichinchas. The perplexing thing about this article however, is that whereas all the information is focused on Antisana, The Illinizas and Chimborazo, all the photos are of Cotopaxi. Hmmmmmm... I still haven't figured this one out. But oh well, I learned a long time ago that once an article leaves your hands, there's no telling how it will turn out. That said, most of the photos were supplied by my good friend !JOE STOCK! who also  just published a skiing guidebook to Alaska called The Alaska Factor. Check it out.

Finally, here's a photo of mine that just appeared in The Avalanche Journal. This was remote triggered on surface hoar during the exciting 2009 / 2010 season. Although I did not receive payment for the double-page spread, I did receive notification that my yearly dues were due. Now that is a good business model!

Return To Baffin Island

Baffin Island: Inspiration from Joshua Lavigne on Vimeo.

Exactly one year ago to the day, Josh L and I flew to Baffin Island to work on a ski-base film shoot. It was an incredible trip with an all-star bunch of people. Here is a short edit that Josh put together. Enjoy!
